Total Time: 45 minutes
Ingredients
- 6 cups fresh blackberries
- 3 cups granulated sugar
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice
Instructions
Wash the blackberries carefully and inspect them for any stems or leaves. Place the berries in a large saucepan.
Use a potato masher to gently crush the berries. Some larger pieces should remain to create a rustic texture.
Add sugar and lemon juice and stir thoroughly.
Place the saucepan over medium heat and bring the mixture to a steady simmer. Continue cooking for approximately thirty minutes, stirring frequently.
As the berries soften, they will release their juices and naturally thicken into a rich jam. Continue stirring to prevent scorching.
Test the consistency by placing a spoonful of jam onto a cold plate. If it thickens and wrinkles slightly when pushed, it is ready.
Allow the jam to rest for several minutes before carefully transferring it into sterilized jars.
Seal the jars and let them cool completely. The jam will continue to thicken as it cools.
Enjoy this sweet and slightly tart blackberry jam on toast, yogurt, muffins, or as a filling for cakes and pastries.
